The Village of Radi di Creta, setting at a top of a hill only few km from

Siena

, was already known in the Xth century and it’s mentioned in some ancient documents.

In the medieval period Radi was a fortified castle with 2 watching towers defending Siena town where, until 1271, had his residence a mayor send from Siena’s Council.

In 1318 the property was bought from a very powerful Placidi family, leaving in Siena and its surrounds.

In 1365 the John Hawkood’s mercenary Company attacked and set fire to a Radi castle, that, once rebuilt, was definitely destroyed from Florence soldiers in 1393.

The actually Villa of Radi was built on the castle ruins in the XVII century from the Bichi Ruspoli family, that has been landlord of the property until now.

The Villa, that is surrounded from part of ancient walls, has a very interesting entrance gate opening on a large courtyard with a stone well in the center, sculpted with multiple coat of arms.
